Cheap Nail Polish

Do you remember your very first nail polish? Well, I sure as hell don’t. My grandmother always wore nail polish, either red or pink. I remember my grandmother polishing my nails when I was about 7 or 8 years old and I couldn’t get my eyes of the shiny, glorious colors and the smooth texture. I must have been about 11 years old when I owned my first nail polish. I don’t even remember the color. Probably red or pink, like my grandmother’s..
When you’re young and dying for colorful nails, you don’t care which brand it is. It must be cheap and pretty, and that’s how my collection got started. Even today I can’t resist searching for bargains. I definitely grew to love and prefer certain brands, but I also still appreciate the cheaper drugstore brands as long as they are pretty and do the trick. I would like to share my experiences with you on cheap polishes!

Drugstore brand tips

Essence - the gel polish

We all know the brand and there are many people that appreciate it. Yet, even some of my favorite youtubers and bloggers don’t seem to agree with me. Here in Holland Essence the gel nail polish (my favourite) sells for only about €1,69 for a 8 ml bottle, which is about 1,06 US-dollars or 0,85 British Pounds. Cheap as hell and good quality! Essence has a nice variety of colors, many are opaque in 2 coats, some might need three but they last well with a good base- and top coat and for that price you have your own beautiful wide collection in no time!

Maybelline New York – Color Show

The amount of choice is pushing me to buy MORE. You have your cremes, your shimmers and your glitters, so much to choose from! The colors tend to be opaque in 2 coats and last well. Bottles are only 7 ml but at €3,99 (3,18 US-dollars or 3,52 British Pounds) that is still a bargain.

Loréal Paris – Color Riche

Trustworthy Loréal tends to bring good products for fair prices. As we speak, they have a beautiful ‘Color Riche’ collection in stores and I’m obsessed with the bottles (See picture at top)! Now, we all know that shouldn’t matter, yet we all know IT DOES! The new polishes are very opaque and the collection is full of rich and warm colors. Now, they sell for €8,99 in Holland (which is 8,49 UK-dollars or 6,80 British Pounds), so they’re not Essence-like priced, but there is a smacking 13,5 ml in a bottle, and their black
is pretty much opaque in one coat! Like they say their selves: you’re worth it!

Now, there are some brands that are nicely priced and have pretty colors, but are just too watery in my opinion. So here is the ‘Caution: watery content’ list:

Miss Sporty

Pretty cheap, pretty watery. Does vary per bottle in my experience.

Herome – W.I.C.

Nice colors, good price, but very watery, some bottles seem to be 50% water.

P.S. (Primark)

Cheapest of them all, but with good reason. Many boring colors and full of water.

What are your experiences? Are there any brands that need to be added to either of the lists?
